CARTOON REVIEW :1988 DRAGOON YEAR

Review cartoon which was published in Public News on 17/2/1988 and 14/2/1988 respectively in conjunction with Dragon Chinese New Year when our country was suffered economy crisis whereby inflation was very high can't be able catch up by the income and red pack given by the boss just enough to buy a cup of coffee, a blink of eye more than two decades was over, dragon year is coming soon, all were changed except two things remain unchanged that are economy and government....
Anyway, I take this opportunity to wish you Happy Chinese New Year.

Mengimbas kembali kartun yang dipaparkan di Berita Awam pada 17/2/1988 dan 14/2/1988 masing-masing sempena menyambut Tahun Baru Cina Naga pada masa negara kita mengalami kemulut ekonomi di mana inflasi agak tinggi tak dikejar oleh pendapatan dan ang pau yang diberi oleh majikan secukup untuk minum secawan kopi, sekelip mata sahaja telah menjangkau lebih dari dua dekad; menjelang tahun naga yang bakal datang, semua telah berubah kecuali dua perkara masih kekal sama, yakni  ekonomi dan kerajaan..... 

 Apa jua, saya mengambil kesempatan mengucap selamat Tahun Baru Cina.

The leader of  the party component BN which claimed to be representing Chinese ethnic at one time expressed opinion about the extend of Chinese support towards the party, Dr said, the party will not seek any appointment of any ministry position if the number of the parliment seat is not achieved  its satisfactory target. The statement of this kind was raised frequently when the general election just around the corner  to remind the Chinese voters think it properly before decide who shall protect the fortune of Chinese if the number of ministry in the cabinet was reduced? This tactic seems would be able to scare Chinese not to elect opposition. However, this time round, this statement has invited stiff criticism among Chinese community as it perceived as threat. Worse still, it has adversely invited negative effect whereby not many  heed his call. The party quickly explained that this statement was merely to remind its members endevour to win more seats to prevent risk of lossing goverment positions inclusive thousands of  head of villager positions. It turned threat to become bait. This scenerio where it is not on the side of the party could be discussed from few angles. Firstly, after the tsunamy of 308 general election after declination of this party and emerged of two party system, the welfare of the Chinese ethnic was still protected even has gained attention from the party which stressed on the "mastership" seems less erogant as before. In short, this Chinese party no longer relevent as party which protect the fortune of  Chinese ethnic. Secondly, it has been many times full support was given by Chinese voters in the hope that it would be able to solve problems faced by Chinese community at least they would be treated equally. Unfortunately this was not happen, worse still the welfare of the Chinese community was deteriorated. This Chinese component party was perceived as the party always follow the wishes of  the main party in the coalition. The leaders tends to protect thier individual power and wealth against the welfare of the community. Thirdly, most of parliment seats won were mainly from the area where majority voters are Malay, it has put this party in the embarrass and uncomfortable state if the party portray itself  so obviously as the worrior to fight the welfare of Chinese community in worrying they will lose its state and parlimentary seats. Sad to say that our country has reached its 55 years independent anniversary, yet there is still existance of party to protect the welfare of thier respective ethnic, it is therefore our dream to extinct the party of this kind instead replace by the party to take care the welfare of all citizen without differentiate the colour of thier skin in the near future.

 Pucuk pimpinan komponen parti BN yang dikatakan mewakili kaum Cina pada satu ketika pernah meluahkan pandangan tentang tahap sokongannya kaum Cina terhadap partinya, Dr berkata, partinya tidak akan menyandang sebarang jawatan menteri sekira bilangan kerusi Parlimen partinya tidak mencapai pada sasar yang memuaskan. Pernyataan ini sering kali diungkitkan semasa pilihanraya menjelang agar mempergingatkan pengundi kaum Cina memikir sebaik-baiknya sebelum mengundi kononnya siapakah yang akan membela nasib kaum Cina sekira bilangan menteri dalam jemaah berkurangan? Taktik ini nampaknya dapat menakutkan kaum Cina daripada mengundi parti pembangkang. Akan tetapi, kali ini pernyataan ini mengundang kritikan yang hebat di kalangan masyarakat Cina kerana ia dianggap sebagai ugutan. Malah, ia sebaliknya mengundang kesan songsang yang rata-rata tidak lagi mengendah tegur ini lagi. Parti ini dengan serta-merta menjelaskan pernyataan ini adalah sekadar memperingatkan ahli-ahlinya berusaha untuk memenagi kerusi supaya elak daripada risiko kehilangan jawatan kerajaan termasuk beribu-ribu jawatan penghulu. Nampaknya, ugutan telah dijadikan umpanan. Senerio yang tidak memihak kepada parti ini boleh diperbincangkan daripada beberapa segi. Pertama, selepas tsunami pilihanraya 308 yang memperlihat kejatuhan parti tersebut dan kemunculan sistem dua parti, kebajikan kaum Cina masih dibela malah mendapat perhatian daripada parti yang begitu tegas kepada "ketuanan" nampaknya kurang angkuh seperti sedia kala.Pendek kata, parti kaum Cina ini tidak lagi relevan sebagai parti yang membela nasib kaum Cina. Kedua, telah banyak kali pengundi Cina memberi peluang dengan memberi sokongan yang sepenuhnya agar masalah-masalah yang dihadapi di kalangan masyarakat Cina dapat diatasi setidak-tidaknya mereka dilayani dengan saksama. Malangnya, ini tidak berlaku, sebaliknya kebajikan masyarakat Cina pada ketika itu kian terhakis. Komponen parti kaum Cina ini diperlihatkan tunduk di bawah jari telunjuk kalau tidak bertindak sebagai pak ampu kepada parti induk yang menerajui pakatan ini. Pemimpinnya diperlihat mempertahankan kuasa dan kekayaan individu  daripada menjaga kebajikan masyarakat. Ketiga, kebanyakan kerusi parlimen yang dimenanginya adalah di bawah kawasan yang majoritinya terdiri daripada pengundi kaum Melayu, ini meletakkan parti ini pada keadaan yang mengaib dan tidak menyenangkan sekiranya partinya terlalu menonjol dirinya sebagai wira memperjuangkan kebajikan masyarakat Cina dikhuathiri kehilangan kerusi DUN dan parlimen. Amat menyedihkan setelah kita telah mencapai kemerdekaan selama 55 tahun, masih wujudnya parti yang membela nasib mengikut kaum masing-masing, maka adalah impian kita agar parti sedemikian dingahkan diganti dengan parti memperjuangkan rakyat sejagat tanpa mengenal warna kulitnya kelak.
